Buildings are traditionally illuminated with oil burnings bowls called Dipa lights or with some artificial lights. On the evening of Diwali the whole family participate in prayers typically to Goddess Laxmi Devi-Goddess of prosperity. After prayers to goddess Laxmi people burn the crackers and after that they exchange the sweets and many more food items with the family members and friends.
